چکیده

Recently, a benchmark problem has been developed to study seismically excited highway bridges. In the second phase of the aforementioned study, the bridge is isolated both at the abutments and at the central pier location. The isolation, though effective in reducing the superstructure responses such as mid-span accelerations, results in increased mid-span and isolator displacements. The performance of a newly developed Lyapunov semiactive controller in reducing the isolator and

Benchmark structural control problem for a seismically excited highway bridge-Part III: Phase II Sample controller for the fully base-isolated case

This paper presents the fully base-isolated highway bridge benchmark problem. The highway bridge benchmark problem consists of two phases: (1) Phase I—the bridge deck being base isolated only at the abutments and the center bent being integral with the pier (without isolation), and (2) Phase II—the bridge deck being fully base isolated at both the bent/pier and abutment locations. In both phase...

Semiactive control strategy for a phase II smart base isolated benchmark building

This paper presents a semiactive control strategy for the seismic protection of the phase II smart base isolated benchmark building subjected to near-fault earthquakes. Magnetorheological (MR) fluid dampers controlled by an optimal direct output feedback control algorithm with a voltage generator are used as semiactive control devices. The benchmark building is an eight-story base isolated buil...

Smart base-isolated benchmark building. Part II: phase I sample controllers for linear isolation systems

Sample controllers for a three-dimensional smart base-isolated building benchmark problem with linear and frictional isolation system are presented in this paper. A Kalman filter is used to estimate the states based on absolute acceleration measurements. Input filters are used to better inform the controller of the spectral content of the earthquake excitations. A reduced order control-oriented...

Seismic Risk Assessment of Optimally Designed Highway Bridge Isolated by Ordinary Unbounded Elastomeric Bearings

Recent experimental research has shown that ordinary unbounded steel reinforced elastomeric bearings (SREBs) can be considered as an attractive cost-effective option for the seismic isolation of highway bridges. To further investigate its benefits, the current study is focused on the seismic risk assessment of an optimally designed highway bridge isolated by SREB system. A typical three-span hi...

Benchmark structural control problem for a seismically excited highway bridge: Phase I and II

Benchmark problems in structural response control have served the international structural controls community as virtual test beds to compare different control algorithms since the first benchmark problem was proposed in 1996 through the sponsorship of the ASCE Structural Control Committee and Task Group on Benchmark Problems, the U.S. Panel on structural control, and International Association ...
